Finding My Voice at the Table

March 5, 2026 Art, Igniting Purpose, Music, Spritituality, Therapy

In honor of International Women’s Day, March 2026, I recently revisited a quote by Shirley Chisholm, the first Black woman elected to the United States Congress: “If they don’t give you a seat at the table, bring a folding chair.” As both a counselor and a musician, this…

You can’t hide from a horse. 🐴 There’s something a You can’t hide from a horse. 🐴
There’s something about being out here, the quiet of the barn, the wide open Tennessee air, that gets you past the story you tell everyone else and into the truth underneath it. That’s the whole point.
Most of us aren’t stuck because we don’t know what we want. We’re stuck because somewhere along the way, we believed a lie about who we are, and that lie has been running the show ever since.
That’s what we go after in our 3 day intensives: licensed counseling, equine therapy, and expressive arts, all working together to help you find the Hidden Lie Framework™ that’s been standing between you and your purpose.
Come find out, somewhere beautiful enough to help you actually see it.

The familiar can feel like safety. Even when it's The familiar can feel like safety. Even when it's the very thing that's been holding you back.

We don't stay stuck because we love being stuck.

We stay stuck because stuck is familiar.

And familiar, even when it's painful, even when it's slowly suffocating the life we were meant to live, feels safer than the unknown.

The mind will choose a pain it recognizes
over a freedom it has never experienced.

Every single time.

Not because it's broken.
Because it's protecting you.

But here is the problem with that kind of protection,

it cannot tell the difference between a genuine threat
and an unfamiliar possibility.

To your nervous system, stepping into something new feels exactly like danger.

Even when that new thing is healing.
Even when it's purpose.
Even when it's the life you have been quietly longing for years.

So you stay.

Not because you don't want more.

But because getting there requires walking through something unknown.

And unknown feels terrifying when familiar,
even painful familiar,
at least feels like solid ground.

That pull back toward what you know?

That is not weakness.

That is a hidden lie doing exactly what it was designed to do,
keeping you inside the walls it built to keep you safe.

The work is not about pushing through fear with willpower.

It is about understanding what the fear is actually protecting,
and honestly asking whether that protection is still serving you.

Or whether it has become a prison
wearing the clothing of safety.

That is exactly what the Hidden Lie Breakthrough Experience is built for.

So many women carry a quiet disappointment they've So many women carry a quiet disappointment they've never said out loud.

We're taught our man will be our knight in shining armor. And when he falls off that horse, as every human eventually does, it's hard to watch. Harder to forgive.

I've sat with woman after woman grieving a marriage that didn't look like what she pictured. The anger, the hurt, the feeling of "this isn't what I signed up for," it's real, and it deserves to be felt.

But here's what I've watched happen, over and over: the moment a woman lets go of who she thought he'd be, forgives him, and forgives herself for the dream she had to release, something shifts. She stops waiting for the story to change and starts becoming who she was always meant to be.

I've watched women step into their calling as artists, entrepreneurs, leaders, not despite the disappointment, but because they finally moved through it.

God doesn't waste the falling off the horse. He uses it to show us the way to freedom. 🐎

What does a marriage look like on the other side o What does a marriage look like on the other side of doing the real work? Melanie and Tyler will show you.

There is a moment in every relationship where a decision gets made.

Not always out loud. Not always consciously.

But a decision nonetheless.

To stay or to go.
To open or to close.
To believe that what you once had is still worth fighting for, or to quietly accept that it isn't.

Melanie and Tyler arrived at that moment.

And they made the harder, braver choice.

What you are about to see in this video is not a performance. It is not a highlight reel. It is two people telling the truth about where they were, what they chose, and what their life looks like now...

marked by connection, laughter, and a peace they once believed was gone forever.

That is what transformation actually sounds like.

The 3-day intensive didn't hand them a new marriage.

It gave them the space, the support, and the honest reckoning needed to find their way back to each other. To uncover what had been buried under years of hurt, distance, and the silent narratives each of them had been carrying alone.

That is the work.

And they showed up for it fully.

I share their story because I know people are reading this right now who are standing at that same crossroads.

Who love someone deeply but feel the distance growing.

Who have tried everything on the surface but haven't yet touched what is underneath.

A couples intensive costs about the same as a vacation.

But a vacation gives you a break from your life.

This gives you a way back into it, together.

If what Melanie and Tyler found sounds like something your marriage needs,

that is worth paying attention to.

Bell didn't have to earn my love. 🐴 And I didn't Bell didn't have to earn my love. 🐴

And I didn't have to earn hers.

She trusts me simply because we spend time together. Nothing more required.

She's not holding any resentment toward me. Not for the days I was distracted or rushed. She lives completely in the present.

I can't always say the same about myself with people.

When we've experienced things that create suspicion, we start protecting ourselves. Staying guarded. Holding back.

And the more we hold onto that protection, the less open and present we actually are with the people right in front of us.

Bell has shown me this is available to us too.

We can trust.
We can love openly and transparently.
We can enjoy the moment, fully, without performing for someone else's approval.

That's the freedom on the other side of the lie that says we have to earn our worth.

What would it look like to love the way Bell does? 💛

Have you ever wondered why the same struggles keep Have you ever wondered why the same struggles keep showing up in your life, even though you've prayed, read the right books, or tried your hardest to change?

What if the problem isn't a lack of effort... but a hidden belief you've carried for years?

The Hidden Lie Framework™ is a simple process that helps you uncover the old narratives that have quietly shaped your thoughts, relationships, and decisions. Once those lies are brought into the light, healing can begin. You can make peace with your story, release what no longer serves you, and step into the freedom and purpose God created you for.

This isn't about pretending your past didn't happen.

It's about discovering that your past no longer has to define your future.

If you're ready to stop surviving and start living with greater peace, clarity, and purpose, I'd be honored to walk that journey with you.

Because the beliefs that once protected you don't have to define your future.

If you've ever felt like you're living someone els If you've ever felt like you're living someone else's life, doing all the right things and still feeling like something essential is missing, that feeling has a name. And it has a way through.

Lost is not a character flaw.

It's not weakness. It's not evidence that you're behind or broken or beyond help.

Most of the time, feeling lost is simply what it feels like when the life you're living no longer fits the person you're becoming. Or when the person you were created to be has been buried under so many old narratives, so many years of playing it safe, that you can no longer find your way back to yourself.

I've been there. And I've sat across from enough people carrying that same weight to know the overwhelm is rarely about what's happening on the surface. It almost always points to something older. A belief formed long ago that quietly became the foundation of every decision made since.

That belief has a name.

I call it the hidden lie.

It sounds different for everyone. For some it whispers you are too much. For others it says you are not enough. For some it has taken the shape of people like me don't get to want things like that.

But whatever form it takes, it does the same thing. It stands between you and the fullest, truest, most God-given version of who you actually are.

You were not created to spend your life working around yourself.

You were created to step fully into yourself. Into your gifts, your calling, your purpose. To live from that place with clarity, freedom, and the deep satisfaction of knowing you are exactly where you were meant to be.

That is the work we do at Igniting Purpose.

Not quick fixes. Not surface strategies. The real, honest, deeply personal work of uncovering what has been holding you back, so that what has always been true about you finally has room to breathe.

If you are not ready for an intensive, but are ready for that conversation, our Five-Session Package was designed for exactly this moment.

The moment you decide that feeling lost is no longer something you are willing to settle for.

Album of the Year Nomination! ✨ I'm incredibly gr Album of the Year Nomination! ✨

I'm incredibly grateful to share that Singing Cowboys Don't Talk has been nominated for Album of the Year: Folk/Americana (Artist) at the 12th Annual Josie Music Awards at the historic Grand Ole Opry House.

When I started writing these songs, I wasn't chasing an award. I was simply trying to tell honest stories; stories of faith, loss, hope, redemption, and the journey of becoming who God created us to be.

This album has been a true labor of love. A special thank you to Donna Ulisse, whose incredible gifts as co-writer and producer helped bring these songs to life, and to every amazing musician who poured their heart into this project. You made these songs what they are.

And to each of you who has listened, streamed, shared a song, come to a performance, sung along, or encouraged me along the way, thank you. You have been part of this story from the very beginning.

Many of you know that I spend my days as a counselor and my evenings writing songs. Over the years, I've realized they are really the same calling. Counseling and songwriting both invite us to slow down, listen to the deeper story of our hearts, and discover hope, healing, and the incredible love of God.

Whatever happens on awards night, I already feel incredibly blessed. If these songs have encouraged even one person to keep going, then they've fulfilled the purpose for which they were written.

Thank you, Josie Music Awards, for this tremendous honor, and thank you to all of you for walking this journey with me. ❤️

✨ Songwriting has taught me that creativity is a p ✨ Songwriting has taught me that creativity is a pilgrimage.

Every time I sit down with my guitar, I think I'm there to write a song.

But more often than not, I discover I'm there to listen.

To wander.

To dig.

To trust that somewhere beneath the noise of everyday life, beneath the expectations, fears, and familiar stories I tell myself, God has already placed something beautiful within me waiting to be uncovered.

I've come to believe that songwriting isn't about creating something from nothing.

It's about uncovering what has been there all along.

The journey isn't always easy.

It often leads through valleys of comparison, self-doubt, and unbelief. There are moments when it feels much safer to stay with what is familiar, the places where I know I'll be accepted, approved of, or where I feel like I fit in.

But those places have never been where my deepest songs are found.

The songs that have mattered most have come from grief.

From love.

From heartache.

From wonder.

From the longing to be seen and heard.

From quiet moments that somehow become melody and words.

Each song feels like brushing away another layer of earth until a small piece of gold catches the light.

Songwriting has become a pilgrimage into the depths of my own heart. Counseling has shown me that healing follows the very same path.

This is why I love working with artists, musicians, writers, dreamers, entrepreneurs, and anyone courageous enough to challenge the limitations they've quietly accepted about themselves.

Because whether we're writing a song, building a business, creating art, leading a ministry, or simply finding our voice, we're all invited into the same courageous work.

To stop living from approval.

To stop creating from fear.

To trust that what God has planted within us is enough.

Healing isn't about becoming someone different.

It's about uncovering who God created us to be before fear convinced us to hide.

🌸 Our voices open like flowers when we begin believing the truth of what God has placed in our hearts.

Maybe the treasure you've been searching for isn't somewhere out there.

Maybe it's already within you, waiting for the courage to be uncovered.

❤️
Sometimes the greatest miracle isn't learning to d Sometimes the greatest miracle isn't learning to do something new...

It's finally believing you can.

Thursday night at a beautiful friend's house party (thank you Ginny Foley), I found myself sitting in a living room, surrounded by people I'd only recently met, sharing songs God has placed on my heart.

Years ago, I never would have imagined doing something like this.

Not because I couldn't sing.

But because I believed things about myself that simply weren't true.

Fear has a way of becoming a storyteller.

It whispers...

"You're not enough."

"You'll never measure up."

"What if you fail?"

"Better play it safe."

The longer we believe those stories, the more they begin to feel like reality.

As a counselor, I've discovered something that has changed the way I help people.

It's often not our circumstances that keep us stuck...

It's the hidden beliefs we formed because of those circumstances.

And when those beliefs begin to change...

✨ We find the courage to say yes.

✨ Creativity comes alive.

✨ Relationships deepen.

✨ New opportunities appear.

✨ Joy returns.

I don't believe God simply wants to heal our wounds.

I believe He wants to awaken the gifts, dreams, and purpose He placed within us long before fear convinced us to hide.

What dream has God placed in your heart that fear has talked you out of pursuing?

🐾 Sometimes what looks like weakness is really a h 🐾 Sometimes what looks like weakness is really a heart that learned how to survive.

A few years ago, we learned about a young hunting dog who was going to be euthanized.

Not because he was aggressive.

Not because he was sick.

Simply because he wasn't a good hunter.

He was too gentle.

Too trusting.

Too sweet.

When we rescued him, he was terrified.

He cowered in his kennel, avoided eye contact, and seemed to expect the worst from everyone around him.

Then something beautiful happened.

He was adopted by a wonderful young couple who loved him with incredible patience and consistency.

Today...

They can't imagine life without him.

He runs.

He plays.

He cuddles.

He trusts.

Watching his transformation has reminded me of something I see every day as a counselor.

So many people believe their survival strategies are their identity.

"I'm just anxious."

"I'm just not confident."

"I'm just a people pleaser."

But what if those aren't the truest things about you?

What if they're simply ways you've learned to protect yourself?

This is the heart of The Hidden Lie Framework™.

The beliefs that once helped us survive can quietly shape how we see ourselves, others, and even God.

Healing isn't about becoming someone new.

It's about uncovering the truth of who you've been all along.

Just like this sweet dog...

He didn't become someone new.

He became who he always was.

🌸 I believe God has placed gifts, purpose, and beauty inside every one of us.

Sometimes they simply need the safety of truth—and love—to bloom.

🌸 Have you ever noticed how easy it is to make you 🌸 Have you ever noticed how easy it is to make yourself smaller without even realizing it?

Sometimes we stay silent when we have something important to say.

Sometimes we apologize for taking up space.

Sometimes we hide our gifts because we're afraid of being misunderstood, rejected, or not enough.

The truth is...

We weren't born believing we needed to hide.

Somewhere along the way, many of us began believing messages that simply weren't true.

"Don't be too much."

"Don't let anyone see you're hurting."

"If you fail, you'll disappoint everyone."

Over time, those messages become beliefs.

And those beliefs quietly shape the way we live, love, lead, create, and use our voice.

This is the heart of The Hidden Lie Framework™.

The beliefs that once helped us survive can quietly keep us from living in freedom.

But when those hidden lies are uncovered and replaced with truth, something beautiful begins to happen.

🌸 Our voices open like flowers when we begin believing the truth of what God has placed in our hearts.

I believe every person carries God-given gifts waiting to bloom.

Healing isn't about becoming someone new.

It's about removing what has been covering who you've been all along.

The world doesn't need a smaller version of you.

It needs the person God uniquely created you to be.

🤍 What gift, dream, or part of yourself have you been hiding? What might begin to bloom if you believed God's truth instead of fear?

Your voice is more than sound. It's a reflection o Your voice is more than sound. It's a reflection of your soul.

One of the things I've been rediscovering lately is my own voice.

Not just as a counselor...

But as a musician.

The more I sing, the more I'm reminded that the human voice is extraordinary.

It isn't simply created by our vocal cords.

It reflects what we believe.

It reveals what we're carrying.

It responds to fear, confidence, shame, joy, grief, and freedom.

I've noticed that as I've continued uncovering old limiting beliefs in my own life, something unexpected has happened.

My voice has changed.

It has become stronger.

More open.

More authentic.

Almost as though it has more room to breathe.

It reminds me of a flower.

When a flower feels safe, it naturally opens toward the light.

Our voices open like flowers when we begin believing the truth of what God has placed in our hearts.

I believe every one of us carries God-given gifts, dreams, and purpose waiting to bloom.

But hidden lies have a way of convincing us to stay small, stay silent, or believe our gifts belong to everyone else.

This is why I care so deeply about The Hidden Lie Framework™.

The hidden beliefs we carry don't just influence our thoughts.

They shape the way we speak.

The way we lead.

The way we love.

The way we create.

Even the way we use—or don't use—our voice.

As those hidden lies lose their power, something beautiful begins to emerge.

Not a different version of ourselves...

But the person God created us to be.

I don't believe healing is simply about overcoming pain.

I believe it's about creating space for the gifts God has planted within us to finally bloom.

Because sometimes finding your voice has very little to do with learning how to speak...

And everything to do with remembering who you were before fear convinced you to become someone else.

❤️ I'd love to hear from you.

What gift, dream, or part of yourself do you feel God is inviting you to bring into the light this season?
✨ What if the very beliefs that once protected you ✨ What if the very beliefs that once protected you are now keeping you from becoming who you were created to be?

I've shared stories about people and even one little girl, whose lives were quietly shaped by beliefs they didn't even realize they were carrying.

One believed her value depended on being chosen.

Another believed her voice belonged to everyone else.

A little girl learned that saying, "I don't know," felt safer than being wrong.

Different stories.

Different experiences.

But they all had one thing in common.

They developed protective beliefs that once helped them survive...but were now quietly keeping them from living in freedom.

Maybe you've recognized yourself too.

✨ People-pleasing.

✨ Perfectionism.

✨ Fear of rejection.

✨ Feeling like you always have to prove yourself.

✨ Carrying the weight of everyone else's needs while quietly losing yourself.

If you've ever wondered...

"Why do I keep repeating the same patterns?"

You're not alone.

Over the years, this understanding became the foundation of The Hidden Lie Framework, an experiential therapeutic approach designed to help uncover the deeper beliefs that influence how we love, lead, respond to stress, and see ourselves.

One of the first ways to experience this work is through the Hidden Lie Breakthrough Experience.

👑 Sometimes "I don't know" doesn't mean we don't k 👑 Sometimes "I don't know" doesn't mean we don't know. Sometimes it means knowing feels too painful.

Over the past few days, I've shared stories about women who rediscovered themselves by uncovering the hidden beliefs shaping their lives.

Today, I want to share one of my favorite stories.

Several years ago, I was working with a precious four-year-old girl whose parents brought her to counseling as they navigated becoming a blended family.

Every question I asked her had the same answer.

"I don't know."

After a while, I had an idea.

I pulled out some construction paper and asked, "Would you like to make an 'I Know' princess crown?"

Her face lit up.

We decorated it together, and across the front I wrote two simple words:

I KNOW

She proudly placed it on her head.

I smiled and asked another question.

Out of habit, she replied,

"I don't know."

I gently pointed to her crown and said,

"But you have your 'I Know' crown on."

She paused.

Then something shifted.

She began telling me about life at home. She described how her mom cried so much that she imagined puddles where she sat.

She knew.

She had always known.

A few moments later, I asked another question.

She quietly took off the crown, laid it on the table, and said,

"I don't like this game."

That little moment has stayed with me for years.

Not because she was four...

But because so many of us do the very same thing.

Sometimes we convince ourselves we don't know because the truth feels too painful to face.

This is one of the principles behind The Hidden Lie Framework™.

The strategies that once protected us can eventually keep us disconnected from ourselves.

Healing doesn't begin by forcing the truth.

It begins by creating enough safety to gently face it.

And when we do...

Confusion gives way to clarity.

Fear gives way to peace.

And we begin living from truth instead of protection.

🤍 Have you ever found yourself saying, "I don't know," only to realize later that part of you knew all along?

✨ What if the very gift you were created to share ✨ What if the very gift you were created to share became connected to your deepest pain?

Yesterday, I shared the story of a woman who had to stop allowing someone else to occupy the center of her story before she could rediscover herself.

Today, I want to share another.

I once worked with a gifted singer whose voice had become connected to years of manipulation and abuse. The people managing her career had used her gift for their own benefit, leaving her feeling unseen, unheard, and deeply wounded.

She told me,

"You couldn't pay me enough to ever sing in front of people again. People just want to use you."

At first, it seemed she had lost her passion for singing.

But through The Hidden Lie Framework™, we uncovered something much deeper.

The problem wasn't her voice.

The hidden lie was that her voice belonged to everyone else.

So we didn't begin by asking her to sing again.

We created a safe place where she could simply reconnect with her voice—for herself.

And something beautiful happened.

She realized singing wasn't just something she did.

It was one of the ways she came home to herself.

As she reclaimed her voice, she also reclaimed her creativity, her confidence, and her freedom to choose what aligned with her true self.

She eventually returned to music as a jazz vocalist—not to earn approval, but because singing brought her joy.

That's what happens when we uncover the hidden lies we've been living from.

We stop living from fear and begin living from truth.

Sometimes healing isn't about finding something new.

It's about reclaiming what was yours all along.

🤍 Has there ever been a gift or part of yourself that you set aside because it became connected to pain? I'd love to hear your story.
✨ Before we can truly find ourselves, we sometimes ✨ Before we can truly find ourselves, we sometimes have to stop allowing someone else to occupy the center of our story.

I once worked with a woman whose entire identity had become wrapped up in being a wife and mother.

When her husband left her for another woman after years of emotional abuse, her world fell apart.

But what broke my heart even more was this...

She couldn't stop talking about him.

"If he would just stop drinking..."

"If he would just realize what he's lost..."

"If he would just change..."

Everything revolved around him.

During one of our intensive sessions, I quietly stood up, walked to the door, opened it, and said,

"He's going to have to leave this room before we can do the real work."

Of course, he wasn't actually there.

It was a metaphor.

She had spent so many years organizing her life around him that she had forgotten how to hear her own voice.

As we uncovered the beliefs she had carried for years, she finally faced the heartbreaking truth of how much of herself she had lost.

The grief was overwhelming.

But on the other side of that grief...

She found herself.

For the first time, she experienced something she had never truly known—her own autonomy.

Her own voice.

Her own value.

Watching that transformation reminded me of something I see over and over again:

Healing often requires us to stop allowing someone else to occupy the center of our story.

This is the heart of The Hidden Lie Framework™.

The protective beliefs that once helped us survive can quietly become the very things keeping us from living in freedom.

But when those hidden beliefs are brought into the light, we can begin replacing protection with truth.

And that's where healing begins.

❤️ If this resonates with you, I'd love to hear your thoughts. Have you ever realized you were living more from someone else's story than your own?

✨ **What if the very beliefs that once protected y ✨ **What if the very beliefs that once protected you are now keeping you from becoming who you were created to be?**

I've been thinking about that a lot lately.

As a therapist, I've had the privilege of sitting with hundreds of people who long for change. They read the books. They've prayed. They've been to therapy. They've worked hard to build beautiful lives.

Yet many still find themselves asking...

*"Why do I keep ending up here?"*

Over the years, I've come to believe that many of us aren't held back because we're broken.

We're held back because we developed **protective beliefs** that helped us survive painful experiences.

At one time, they served a purpose.

They helped us navigate rejection.

Loss.

Fear.

Trauma.

Disappointment.

But what once protected us can quietly become what prevents us from fully living.

I call these deeply rooted protective beliefs our **Hidden Lies**.

Not because we're intentionally believing something false...

But because we've lived with these beliefs for so long, they've become part of the way we see ourselves and the world.

The wonderful news is this...

✨ Healing isn't about becoming someone new.

✨ It's about rediscovering who you've always been beneath those protective beliefs.

That's why I do the work I do.

Through counseling, immersive therapeutic experiences, music, speaking, and **Igniting Purpose**, my heart is to help people uncover what's been quietly shaping their lives so they can live with greater freedom, authenticity, and purpose.

As a therapist...and as a musician...I spent years comparing myself to everyone else.

I questioned my worth.

I silenced my creativity.

I convinced myself that if I couldn't be the best, maybe I shouldn't do it at all.

Looking back, I realize I wasn't lacking talent.

I was living from a **Hidden Lie™**.

A belief that wasn't true...
but felt true enough that I built my life around it.

Maybe you've believed one too.

💭 "I'm not enough."

💭 "I have to earn love."

💭 "If I disappoint people, they'll leave."

💭 "I have to hold everything together."

The hardest part?

These beliefs often begin as ways of protecting us.

But over time, they become the very things that keep us from becoming who we were created to be.

Today, I have the privilege of helping women uncover those Hidden Lies™ through my experiential therapy practice and my Hidden Lie™ Framework.

Because here's what I've learned...

**The lie you believe determines the life you live.**

But it doesn't have to stay that way.

Healing begins when we have the courage to bring those hidden beliefs into the light—and replace them with truth.

If this resonates with you, I'd love to hear from you.

💛 Comment with **"TRUTH"** if you've ever realized you were believing something about yourself that wasn't true.

Or send me a DM with the word **HIDDEN** if you'd like to learn more about my Hidden Lie™ Breakthrough Session.

You don't have to keep living from a story that was never meant to define you.
